Internet & Digital Literacy Refresher #2020

Updated: Oct 4, 2020

As a collective, we are finding ways to navigate the treacherous challenges associated with the year 2020. With the expeditious boom in our society’s “expert” panels and information accessibility, unknowingly or knowingly, we are also faced with yet another insidious issue: MISINFORMATION. Our community has to make it priority to fact check everything!

The intent is simple: knowledge lends to power.

That power is valuable, so take ownership of it! Next time you are faced with new/old/contradictory information, ask yourself these questions. If you are unable to answer any of them… GET TO WORK!

Acknowledgement of source:

  1. Why did I choose this source?

  2. Why did this source choose me? There is confirmed proof of algorithm biases used by organizations to target users' vulnerability via the uses of search engines and social media platforms.

Acknowledgment of self biases:

  1. Identify your emotions.

  2. Are there any identifiable biases?

Identify external bias:

  1. Identify external narratives.

  2. Are there any identifiable biases?

Self exploration:

  1. Have I checked other reputable internal and external sources and/or resources?

Self explanation and critical thinking:

  1. Am I able to formulate my own ideas and opinion?
